» Divine Family: {mother & father} unknown; {spouse} none; {siblings} unknown; {children} none
» Mythology:
Pontius’ beginnings are a mystery. Through unknown circumstances, he is said to have become either a procurator or prefect of Judaea (depending on which source material you look at). Regardless, he was granted authority both of finances and ultimate judicial power in Judaea. He traveled from Caesarea to Jerusalem with soldiers to attend the feasts, which is why he was around for the Crucifixion.
Spoilers: Jesus dies. Though in all Gospels, Pontius is believed to be blameless, he is still listed as a major figure. Jesus was brought to Pontius for judgment; Pontius declared him innocent in some versions and simply refused to give verdict in others. Either way, he washed his hands of the matter and allowed the people to decide. They opted to crucify him (Christ that is).

Simon Caine was a published and moderately successful fiction writer. Julia Caine was a film script supervisor. The two both travelled a great deal for work. While Julia spent about half her time away on location, she was a dedicated and loving mother when she was present. Simon cared for the two boys the rest of the time, taking them with him on his many adventures.
Asher was officially born in Boston, Massachusetts. Though the family traveled a great deal, Boston was their home -- Cambridge, technically -- until Asher was nearly ten years old. He spent a lot of time fighting with neighborhood kids, then was put into formal martial arts by his father. Simon and Asher made a deal that Asher could continue to learn mixed martial arts so long as he would avoid fighting. When he was a little older, he became close with a family friend, Seth, who was a professional stuntman his mother had met while filming. He began studying gymnastics and things as well, in the hopes of pursuing such a career. In addition to being homeschooled.
In 1991, the family then moved to Cape Town, South Africa, where his brother was born. Asher spent most of his teens in South Africa just as Apartheid was ending. The extreme racial tensions and propensity for random violence taught him a level of patience and acceptance that he hadn’t realized before. It also encouraged the strength of his convictions and developed his personal moral code.
At the age of 16, the family moved to Oxford, United Kingdom, still travelling during the summers and other holidays. At the age of 18, when Asher “graduated,” he returned to the States for school. He attended Suffolk University, in Boston, for two years (being accepted through some good connections, a great essay, and for the diversity), before dropping out to pursue his dream of film.
Now 20, he moved to California, fighting and doing some grocery store work to make ends meet. Seth helped him to get a stunt double role in a big action film. It changed his life. Over time, he then had the fortune of using connections to continue to get other, smaller jobs.
Eventually, his reputation earned him some work as a trainer as well, mainly for teenagers in Young Adult, based-on-the-book films that needed more time and patience than skill from their trainer. He eventually landed another role, then another. Now he continues to work as a stunt man, trainer, and fighter. His girlfriend is a fairly unknown actress whom he met on a film; they’ve been together for a little under a year now, both working on other projects, not living together.
Asher still visits his family when he can, who have moved back to Massachusetts to be closer to home. They still vacation together at least once a year.
Asher first began to get hints of his true nature in Cape Town, then through martial arts, then in Boston. It wasn’t until he was knocked unconscious during a street brawl that his brain put the pieces together and he finally remembered who he was, in his late 20’s. He mostly keeps it quiet, finding no reason to publicize the matter or to admit it to his close friends or girlfriend. It’s not until the email that he even wonders if it’s worth talking about.
» Personality:
Asher is extremely dedicated. He plays hard and works harder, determined to succeed. He doesn’t see things as “difficult,” but simply as another challenge to be overcome. When he’s told he can’t do something, that often makes him more inclined to want to try it; that is, within the realm of morality. His respect for authority trumps his ego and desire to prove he can do anything -- most of the time; nothing is absolute.
Aside from being proactive and generally energetic, he’s a guy who’s fairly easy to get along with at a shallow level. He’s not laidback, exactly; he gets bored doing nothing for any period of time. But he’s not the type who needs to make all the big decisions. He spends enough of his life sacrificing control that it doesn’t bother him to do it with others; it’s not a matter of shyness or indecisiveness. He’ll speak up about his opinions, but gladly acquiesce to alternate plans when they don’t matter much.
On subjects that do matter, such as morality, life goals, etc., his views are fixed and basically immovable. For these things, it will be nearly impossible to change his mind, but he’s not likely to talk about them much. For example, he would never beat up someone who he wasn't certain, without doubt, was guilty (of abuse, violence, etc). He is not infallible, but he must be certain for himself.
His morals are mostly in line with felonies, with some added negative views of lesser violence against women. He's unarguably against mass theft, terrorism, murder, unprovoked assault, rape, abuse, etc., but might engage in "petty" crimes like small scale theft. Asher also believes in vigilante violence (towards men; he would never beat a woman) when he views the crime as worse than any punishment he might give out.
His life goals are somewhat abstract, but immovable in any part which is formed. That is, he wants to succeed in his current industry, regardless of the flack he receives or the periods of minimal eating. He wants to get married to a nice woman and have kids at some point. There is no question in his mind that he wants these things and will achieve them with time, but, as mentioned, he usually avoids talking about them.
Asher prefers to get along with people and keep things shallow, rather than to argue and risk making enemies. He’s not likely to cave to peer pressure, but he won’t stop people from pressuring others if it means he could be blamed for ruining a party (i.e. he would not rob a bank, but wouldn't turn others in if he might be accused of being a rat). To reiterate/clarify, his reputation is extremely important to him. He won’t go against his personal moral code for the sake of his reputation, but he might look the other way if someone else did and simply edge them out of his life over time (because he doesn’t want to be surrounded by people like that, but he wouldn’t necessarily want to cause a scene either).
While Asher doesn’t exactly suffer from a hero complex, he can be protective of the people that he cares about and he likes being involved in things. If it’s a minor issue, he’ll try to diplomatically soothe. If someone, say, tried to rape his girlfriend, he’d probably try to beat them to the point of hospitalization -- so long as no one would find out. If they were likely to? He would do everything he could to destroy them passively or have some friends do the dirty work instead. Again with the respect for the authority thing; in his mind, his police buddies not knowing means they don’t have to face the conundrum of arresting him versus being loyal.
He serves his own moral code first, then his reputation, then his respect for authority.
Asher doesn’t like blatant lying, but he approves of lying by omission and white lies. With the people he’s extremely close with, he believes in complete honesty (minus genuinely small white lies), excepting the whole being Pontius Pilate thing.
Because of his charismatic nature, Asher has a lot of shallow friendships, but has difficulty in connecting and making deeper friendships. He’s the kind of guy who makes a person feel like they’re the most important when he’s with them, but who easily forgets those that don’t make an impression when they’re away. This is mainly due to wanting to avoid conflict and maintain a pristine reputation, but also because he’s simply too ambitious and determined to often spend the time needed to create and build friendships. When the other person is willing to put in most of the effort, however, he’s a good friend who predicts needs and gives generous gifts, etc.
Independent, dependable, and meticulous, Asher is the ideal employee and most of the reason he has succeeded as much as he has in his various studies (martial arts, gymnastics, etc). In non-work matters, Asher tends to be impulsive and fearless. That is, he’s sensible enough not to put his life or all his money at risk, but he’ll be the first to try the unlabeled bottle of alcohol at a friend’s party, go skydiving, or have a one night stand (when he’s not in a relationship).
Asher loves traveling and has experienced a lot of different cultures, so he has appreciation for really random, little things, like ice cubes and springboks. In the day-to-day, he works hard and tries to get out to be with friends or meet new people or enjoy the company of a beautiful woman.
» Other Notes:
Asher excels at various forms of martial arts, especially mixed martial arts. He’s a master of parkour and has a decent background in gymnastics (not professionally). His work as a stuntman has taught him to fall, etc., with an extremely reduced risk of injury.
Due to his many travels, he also has some minor knowledge of a few languages, including French, Russian, and Austrian-German (meaning the appropriate slang). He’s also conversational in Afrikaans.
» Sample Journal:
Hey. The email wouldn’t go away, so I logged into the network. I get it. I get what you’re trying to do and I already remember, but I don’t really do fanclubs, so. How do I go about unsubscribing from this little family?
» Sample Log:
Asher smiled as if hiding some great secret in response to Liv’s remark. He lifted a hand to rest gently at the small of her back, guiding her through the door he held open for her and then following her inside. The hostess flashed them both a winning grin. Objectively, he might say that the woman’s gaze lingered, but he was too much a gentleman to return it. Or, perhaps, he was just hoping to get laid later.
He took a seat across from his girlfriend, smiling when she was fawned over just before sitting. Two tween girls approached their table, asking for a quick photo. Olivia graciously agreed, like she always did, then smiled and waved them off. She offered a quick apology as she sat.
“Don’t worry about it,” he replied sincerely, still grinning. Asher found it all a bit amusing, how adored she was. They both hated the paparazzi, but fans were different. “Wine?”
“You know me so well, Ash,” she teased with a grin.
He narrowed his gaze at her as his smile faded, feigning much more critical thinking. “White.. No. Rose.. Dry.”
“Close. I was actually thinking a sweet red.” She replied with a grin.
“Nailed it.” The two laughed and he flicked open the menu to look over the list of reds, planning to order a bottle for the two of them to share.
