Deity Information
» Pantheon: Greek
» Deity: Ganymede
» Reference: Theoi, Mythica.
» Divine Family: {mother and father} Kallirhoe and Tros; {siblings} Illus and Assaracus.
» Mythology: Ganymede was the son of the Trojan king, and supposedly one of the most beautiful of the race of men. He was known for his beauty, though he kept a honest job as an oxherd as well. He was said to have been tending to his herd on Mount Ida one night, and for some reason or another, he ended up catching the eye of Zeus. Zeus fell in love with the boy, or rather, desired to have him, and one night, under the cover of a thunderstorm, seized upon the young Trojan and kidnapped him for himself. He was brought to Olympus, and promptly made one of Zeus' lovers, though, the only male that the god had ever taken. Along with this came benefits, of course. He was deified, and kept just as youthful and immortal as young Hebe, who was rather harshly kicked out of her job as cup bearer, and replaced by Ganymede. None of this sat well with Hera, who had some understandable problems with her husband's behavior regarding Ganymede. Hera always saw him very distastefully, and held an immense dislike for Troy, itself.
Ganymede was also said to have been a playmate or companion of Eros, though Eros once cheated him in a game of dice, causing him to become rather infuriated.
He was eventually rumored to have been set in the sky, as the constellation Aquarius. This saved him from Hera's wrath, and made his image, along with the Eagle, Aquila, immortal.

» Current Name: Tanner Sterling
» Birthdate: 03/08/1993
» Height: 5' 3"
» Distinguishing Marks: Distinctive long, curly hair. rather short for an adult.
» Family: {mother & father} Marissa & Karl Sterling; {marital status/spouse} Single/NA; {siblings} None; {children} None; {pets} A bunny.
» Occupation: Full-time college student, majoring in journalism. Has a part time job at a small cafe.
» Currently Residing In: New York, New York.
» Ability: Ganymede incites the slightest bit of lust in males, though, not all, particularly if they have a decent grasp on their own definition of their sexuality. It's nothing worth kidnapping him over, and he's not aware of it's presence at all. But it is there, a mere remnant of the desire that had driven Zeus to abduct him. It should be noted that this desire only works towards himself.
UPDATED ABILITIES: Ganymede will be getting a general boost in his attractive abilities in a very 'Everyone's gay for Bridget' sort of way. Meaning, for the most part, guys who wouldn't normally find him attractive are going to, and guys who already do are going to find that tug feeling about three times worse. Additionally, anything the little cupbearer stirs up to drink is going to taste a little better than it would if it were made by anyone else.
Additional Attribute:dat ass. Seriously, though. He's going to be slightly more sexually appealing. Oopsies.
» History: The first reincarnation of Ganymede, Tanner Sterling was born into wealth, with his father Karl being one of the heads at a major manufacturing company, headquartered in Dortmund, Germany. He was a genuinely happy baby, and a genuinely happy little boy. He'd never had much to worry about, as money was never a problem, and he could afford to go to the best schools, with the best teachers, and everyone seemed to treat him like the most precious thing to ever cross paths with them. By the time he was an adolescent, he'd gotten very close to another boy named Tim, an American student studying in Germany periodically as his parents did a lot of business nearby with Tanner's parents. Tim and Tanner were close, spending their time together, often in secret, telling stories and laughing.
Tim became infatuated with Tanner as they grew up, and Tanner couldn't find it in him to spurn his advances into turning their friendship into something more romantic. They were each other's first kiss, with Tanner not thinking much of it, and Tim thinking the world of it. The time they got to spend together in-between school, and Tim being away was quite happy. Tim was too shy to become more physical with Tanner, and Tanner wasn't entirely ready, so they stuck to sharing quick kisses and snuggling together, just to watch movies and play video games.
However, the relationship sparked tension between the two business families. With Tim's mother, the head of another large, international company, claiming that Tanner had corrupted her son. Tanner's father argued the same right back to her, claiming Tim was responsible for the behaviors he'd witnessed, and once it became obvious that the debate was going to interfere with business transactions between the two and get in the way of money being made, Tanner's father brought down his overprotective hand, and forbade the boy from ever seeing Tim again.
He had to change schools, his phone number, and of course, Ganymede cried, but eventually conceded. His father's wrath was much too much for him to handle, of course, and while he cared for Tim, disobeying left a bad feeling in his stomach as well. So, without explanation, Tanner simply cut contact with Tim, who, remained infatuated and worried over his sudden absence.
The move to America was a financial decision made, of course, by his father. The company was expanding, and so a move was imminent. Not pleasant in the least, but imminent. During the move, Tanner was told that he was going to be kept under even more strict supervision, as New York was said to be populated and dangerous. Again, not wanting to upset his father, he conceded. He ended up finishing his schooling, making very little friends, though he tried to, and certainly never having another boyfriend. He never rebelled. Instead, he busied himself with things, little hobbies to keep him occupied.
College, however, came with a distinct loosening of his parent's grip on his life. Perhaps they'd realized that keeping Tanner locked up and lonely was only going to make him resentful one day, and his father insisted that he exercise his communication skills a little more, for the purpose of getting ahead in the work place. His parents even gifted him a decent apartment close to theirs, so he'd have experience living on his own.
Now, he finds himself in a position that's been opposite of what he's been feeling his entire life. He can do what he wants to, and he isn't sure how to handle that. In fact, the shock of it all is the main reason for Ganymede's personal awakening as Ganymede, which…he wasn't sure how to handle, either. The first thing to hit him was the kidnapping, of course, which had him avoiding people for a good while. Then, his demeanor softened, remembering exactly what it was Zeus had done for him despite the kidnapping. The immortality and the affection, and he couldn't help but feel…warm. Happy. He's still not entirely over being kidnapped, but if his trusting in strangers is any testament to how easily it was for him to get over, it's quite obvious that he's…alright. At least for now.
» Personality: Ganymede just wants to make people happy. His driving force is making other people happy, even to the point where he'll forsake his own desires and forget about what makes him happy in order to do so. It makes him docile, and especially content with his situation in life. He's very wide-eyed, having not experienced much of the world outside of the obsessive sheltering by his parents, and tends to have a very narrow view of the way things work. He's highly inexperienced at the very act of having to grow up, given that he never really had a chance to, as Zeus' cupbearer, so if there's a 'first', he probably has yet to do it. Having overprotective parents doesn't really help this matter much, either.
When it comes to intellect, there would be no reason to ever call Ganymede 'stupid'. He's quite bright when it comes to communicating, and can communicate in a very clear, logical way. Not that he can't come across as insufferably 'cutesy', but the intellect really is there. He's prone to getting frustrated when others try to tell him he doesn't know anything, or that something is too difficult or too advanced for him to understand. Despite his looks, and his reputation for being somewhat…oblivious, Ganymede really does want to be given a fair chance at being something other than somebody's eternal golden boy.
Most of the time, anyways. Ganymede has a habit of finding people more experienced than him, and all but latching onto them. Growing up is really awfully frightening, and any advice on how to deal with it is accepted very graciously. He also has a difficult time telling people 'no'. Particularly if he likes them at all. Not that he's entirely submissive to everything anyone does to him, but he has a difficult time resisting. If it makes someone else happy, he's happy. Even if it's uncomfortable, or something he doesn't quite understand.
That being said, Ganymede is somewhat oblivious to bad intentions. He doesn't understand the attention he gets, and as for anything sexual, he's pretty much baffled. He knows he's attractive, and he can occasionally use it to his advantage, but it's almost as if he doesn't understand his own implications, or what it is he's doing. Sex, however, is something he's a little afraid of. He's simply sweet, and virginal, though his want to please people and his inability to say 'no' make him a bit of a target.
The most negative aspect of Ganymede's personality is his misunderstanding of the world around him and how it works. He can be immature at times, and when threatened, or upset, tends to cling to the closest figure in authority for protection. He's not good at fighting his own battles, as he's never had to do so, and tends to take small, every-day things about his life and worry himself over them. He hurts people's feelings on accident, or simply out of his own obliviousness to their feelings. He's accidentally spurned potential boyfriends with offhand remarks, insulted people by passing along a rumor which he couldn't tell was a blatant lie (i.e, telling someone he heard they were clumsy without realizing just how insulting it was), and outright told people they scare him. He's childlike, but trying to put forth an effort not to be.
It's also worth noting that he is spectacularly affectionate. Almost clingy, in some respects. But he likes to be in physical contact with the people he likes. He's a notorious hugs-and-kisses kind of person, even with people who might find it a little uncomfortable.
He can really be a joy to be around, but one has to be willing to put up with his apparent obliviousness.
All in all, Ganymede is pretty, polite, and shallow. Not on purpose, of course, and it isn't as if the young man is completely devoid of depth, but to most people, he is simply a pretty thing to look at. The pretty boy in the coffee shop. His particular brand of intellect needs a little coaxing to reveal.
» Other Notes: Ganymede is gay (though, he's never had a big 'coming out of the closet' moment). He's also got a subconscious attraction to older men and authority figures (thank you, Zeus), and while he isn't exactly unfriendly with women, he simply prefers to be around boys. Mostly. When he speaks, his voice is tinged with just a hint of a German accent. He also blushes rather easily, and tends to play with his hair more around people he likes.
Also, ridiculously fond of candy, sweet things, and tea.
» Sample Journal: I'm so excited! I actually get to interview someone tomorrow, and I really can't wait to finally get to talk to someone…but I don't know what kinds of questions to ask. I almost feel shy, because the person I'm scheduled to interview is so very important. I really hope I don't mess it up! I don't know how I would, though. Maybe ask him the wrong thing? I hope I look nice, tomorrow.
He told me I looked nice when I met him yesterday, so that's a good thing, at least. :) I wouldn't want to make a bad impression.
Um. Wish me luck!~
» Sample Log: Tanner loved the smell of coffee. He hated drinking the stuff black, and the blend that the man across the counter across from him had ordered was particularly bitter. But, he couldn't help but take a nice, deep inhale as he whipped the drink up. It was a simple enough order, and he managed to get it filled rather quickly, but something about the way that man with the five-o-clock shadow was staring at him made him feel slightly uneasy, though he kept the bright smile on his face, despite the strange look, and continued securing the plastic lid onto the cup as per the customer's request.
"Will that be all?" he chimed, sliding the drink forward across the counter, only to be met with that stare again. He leaned forward a bit, and nudged the drink towards him, a nervous, yet pleasant giggle managing to escape from his lips.
"Actually, no. I forgot to ask for a little cream. Could you put a little cream in it for me?" the man asked, and Tanner resisted the urge to point over towards the little kiosk of coffee additives. He'd always been told not to do such a thing, as it was seen as rude to simply tell someone to 'do it themselves', so he carefully took the drink back, pried off the lid, and got out the little carton of cream he kept behind the counter for just such an occasion. "How much?" he asked, screwing off the plastic lid to the carton, letting those blue eyes flutter up just a little bit to gaze right back at him as he gave a last little tug on the lid.
"As much as you want." the customer was leaning forward on the counter now, and Tanner just giggled, adding a moderate amount, and re-sealing the cup, shoving it forward. His cheeks flushed, and his smile brightened, despite his growing discomfort with his situation.
"There. That shouldn't be too much. That's how I usually make mine." he said, as the man took the drink from his hands, and deposited a sizable tip in his tip jar.
"Um. Thank you! If you don't like it, I'll make you another one, okay?" he called, his voice light and happy as the man finally started to walk away from him. The man just tossed him a wink, and Ganymede sighed, feeling a cold glare on his back from one of his coworkers. The glare made him self-conscious about what had just transpired, although, he was happy he'd gotten such a nice tip. How very kind of him, he thought, the smile returning to his face as he slid a wet cloth over his smooth work area, following it up with a dry one, and feeling good about himself despite the glare. Though it felt…eerily familiar to have an older woman glaring at him quite so murderously. He hummed a little to himself, and continued to clean, the ever-present smile not wavering in the slightest.
